QUESTION POSED ON: 30 April 2002
I have a question about the enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, SAP (which as I understand, was developed by a German based company).

What does "SAP" stand for?

Thanks for your help. This will answer an extra credit question in my MIS class.

EXPERT RESPONSE

"SAP" stand for System Application Program.

SAP R/3 is an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system which integrates most business applications (Sales/Distribution, Material Management, Production Planning, Controlling, Financial Management, etc.) in one product. SAP R/3 consists of a presentation server on the client side, the middle tier Application server and its own repository which consists of the data model (DDIC) and programs written in a proprietary language called ABAP/4, and the Database server which runs on various platforms and databases.
