EXPERT RESPONSE
An Oracle Critical Patch Update, or CPU, is a quarterly patch issued by Oracle to its customers to fix known bugs that are critical in nature. These patches can be downloaded from Metalink, which is Oracle's support Web site. To register for Metalink, you will need a valid Support Identifier (CSI). CSI numbers are unique support identifiers given to each customer with a current support contract.
You must download the appropriate CPU for your operating system as they are specific to each platform and Oracle product (database, application server, etc.). With each download, there are specific instructions on how to apply the patch.
