I've read Exchange Server 2007 will be available soon, and it runs on 64-bit CPUs only. Does this mean I will not be able to setup a lab with my existing 32-bit servers? QUESTION POSED ON: 16 JUL 2006
QUESTION ANSWERED BY: Bharat Suneja The good news is Microsoft has thought of this. A 32-bit version of Exchange Server 2007 is being made available as a download from Microsoft's Web site. You will be able to use this in your lab environment to test and learn Exchange Server 2007. Most likely, this will not ship on the Exchange Server 2007 media when it ships.

However, be aware that the 32-bit version will NOT be supported in a production environment, and as noted, that's the reason it's not likely to ship on the Exchange Server 2007 RTM media as well.

Also note, if your existing desktops, notebooks and servers have a 64-bit CPU -- like most current Intel Xeon processors, Intel Pentium D, or AMD Athlon, Opteron or Turion CPUs -- but are currently running a 32-bit Windows OS, you will be able to run 64-bit Windows server OS on these.
