What is optical fiber? QUESTION POSED ON: 27 JUL 2004
QUESTION ANSWERED BY: Lisa Phifer Optical fiber is a "cable" made from glass that can carry data that has been modulated into light waves. There's a good summary definition of fiber optics, including a graphic of optical fiber, at Webopedia. A network using fiber would be considered a "wired" network (as opposed to a wireless network that uses air, not glass, as a medium).
