System Restore for Windows XP can be an extremely helpful feature, but in some instances you may want to disable it.
For example, if you've rolled out a specific application where a System Restore could remove or break the application, you may want to disable the feature.
You can disable the System Restore feature through group policy by performing the following steps:
- In Active Directory Users and Computers, navigate to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System, System Restore.
- Double-click "Turn off System Restore," set it to Enabled, then click OK.
- Close the policy and exit Active Directory Users and Computers.
- The changes will take effect on the next policy refresh.
