What is the recommended procedure for defragging an Exchange server on a RAID system? The OS is Win Server 2003 SP1. Can I use a third party application like Diskeeper? Do I need to disable any services when I run the defrag? QUESTION POSED ON: 22 JUL 2006
QUESTION ANSWERED BY: Bharat Suneja Disk Defragmentation may help you improve performance when disks are heavily fragmented. When considering disk defragmenting utilities, please contact the utility vendor to find out if it is supported in a particular environment. Rather than leaving a disk defragmentation utility always on, I would consider using it periodically on an "as required" basis.
