I'd like to investigate an open source database as a replacement for SQL Server in my company, but I'm worried about support. What are the options for enterprise-level support, and are they enough? QUESTION POSED ON: 17 JUN 2006
QUESTION ANSWERED BY: Maria Winslow There are two obvious choices for an open source database to replace SQL Server:

Either one will provide the features and stability you need to feel comfortable with the switch. Enterprise-level support can be purchased for either database. You can look to MySQL Inc. for professional MySQL support and EnterpriseDB for professional PostgreSQL support. The popularity of these databases also means that you should also have little difficulty in most areas finding a local systems integrator with open source database experience.
