Do I have to supplement my cooling with the same manufacturer that I already have in my data center? QUESTION POSED ON: 08 MAR 2006
QUESTION ANSWERED BY: Carrie Higbie Absolutely NOT. The major players all have supplemental cooling that will work with other manufacturers' cooling because of the way they are deployed. The key word here is supplemental. If the cooling is in a cabinet, mounted in the ceiling or is a water-cooled cabinet, it can operate to increase your air flow. Of course, there is always the option of the complete overhaul and replacement, but to be realistic, I have not seen many of these original units that you can even get out of a data center without performing a Texas chainsaw massacre. The key is to size them correctly, add cooling where needed; in some cases, it may be as simple as rearranging some equipment.
