I don't need any "undo" functionality on a database. Can I set the "undo retention" to 0? Will that have any bad effects? QUESTION POSED ON: 19 JAN 2006
QUESTION ANSWERED BY: Paul Baumgartel Every Oracle database requires undo functionality. It is an essential part of Oracle's read consistency mechanism; it makes rollback possible and you cannot disable it. If you don't intend to use flashback, just leave the undo_retention parameter at its default value.
