I am an IT professional with more than five years of experience and a lot of IT certifications such as MCP, MCSE, MCSA, MCDBA, MCAD.NET and MCSD.NET from Microsoft, CNA and CCNP from Cisco Systems and Security+ from CompTIA. I live in Iran and there is not too much work for me in this country. I was instructed to apply work in U.S., and I made a lot of effort toward that, but still have not been successful.

How can I get a good job? Money is not really the issue for me, but working in a progressive environment is. QUESTION POSED ON: 09 NOV 2005
QUESTION ANSWERED BY: Ed Tittel You need to find a company to sponsor you in the U.S. to help you get your visa papers processed. But sadly, because Iran is on the list of proscribed nations from the U.S. State Department (for reasons relating to terrorism and to repression of religious freedom), this might prove difficult if not downright impossible. Might I encourage you seek similar status in a country of the British Commonwealth instead (UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and so forth)? This is not so difficult and will present many of the same opportunities and allow you to continue to use your excellent English.

For more information, you'll want to cruise the Internet and select a target country, then contact their consulate for information on how to apply for a visa. At the same time, you can cruise the employment advertisements in your target country as well. (Big-name IT journals like Computerworld, Information Week and so forth all have targeted editions for most of the bigger Commonwealth countries and also include job postings/advertisements that you'll find quite useful and informative.)

For the nonce, that's the best strategy I can suggest. Good luck, and may you realize your fondest hopes!
