I have two 3Com layer 3 switches (4924) connecting to two separate networks in a building. How do I configure these switches so that the communication can be established between the two networks?
These two networks are on the first and second floor of the same building. How would the switches be connected physically? How would the connecting ports need to be configured?

I do not have any of these switches and the Cisco units we use are not under my control. BUT, a quick Google search finds several references and guides from 3Com and from third parties. From what I read you would need transceiver link modules and wiring between the two for connecting. I cannot give you a list of instructions because I don't have the equipment. That said, the mechanics of connecting is easily specified by reading the guides. The software configuration has a couple of twists:
- Are they on related subnets (i.e., 192.168.xxx.yyy and 192.168.xxx+1.yyy)? Then simply setting the subnet to 255.255.254.0 and using the same gateway would connect them.
- Do they both have separate ISP/Internet connections with addresses provided by the ISP? Then you could set trust relationships between the domains.
