In what format is the master document referred in your blog about firewalls? Is this manually maintained or maintained through the system?
QUESTION POSED ON: 18 OCT 2005
QUESTION ANSWERED BY: Bob Konigsberg
The master document I referred to is only for when you have a firewall built out of commands entered at the command line (or possibly FTPed or TFTPed up from a server or workstation). The format is pure text, and the appropriate comments are prefaced with some symbol that won't cause the firewall (a Cisco PIX, for example) to protest. (For those of you who are going to mention the Pix GUI interface, my answer is that I dislike it to the point where I'd rather use the command line interface). I prefer the GUI for Checkpoint, Juniper, iPolicy, SonicWall and many others to the PIX one.
