We are looking for proactive monitoring of bad performing queries in Oracle/Sybase/DB2/MS SQL Server. Do you know any single tool can support such a requirement? If not, which tool or tools you suggest for proactive monitoring of bad performing queries and providing optimization for those queries? QUESTION POSED ON: 22 AUG 2005
QUESTION ANSWERED BY: Kevin Kline There are a lot of third-party tools that can help find and fix bad SQL statements on one database platform. That number drops to a handful when you're looking for that capability on two database platforms. When you want that capability on several database platforms, you're down to slim pickin's.

At the risk of sounding biased, I'd put forward my own company, Quest Software's Spotlight line of products. Spotlight provides very rich diagnostic information. If you're looking for something more lightweight, then you might consider Zero Impact Monitor from SQL Power Tools. Once you get past these two, there really aren't that many products that are cross-platform that I'm aware of.
