We want to move to the Linux platform. How do Oracle apps on Linux compare to Oracle apps on Sun Solaris? And do you think it's a good idea to move to Linux from Solaris?

I think the most important thing I can say about this is that Oracle is very much committed to Linux. The one advantage, especially in the enterprise, is that Oracle has a team lead by Wim Coekerts, who is contributing back to the Linux kernel efforts to help optimize the operating system to host Oracle databases.
They have a commitment to Linux and their Linux Technology Center has a lot of information on how Oracle and Linux work together. In fact, I believe they have set some recent benchmarks on Linux.
Now Sun should also get credit for being secure. If you are hosting customer data, I believe that Sun has never been compromised by a virus; they do have a reputation for security. With that being said, I think that I personally would feel confident keeping my data on either platform. What it comes down to is this: I would look at the application and the options presented by both operating systems and go with whichever one offers you the most value.
