How reliable is VoIP at the moment? What are the concerns or possible problems with this solution?

VoIP systems today are much better than the older ones. There are several problems that you can run into if it is not installed or configured correctly. One problem that many companies run into is not understanding the management functions of the system, but I would say the biggest difficulty is not performing an infrastructure audit prior to implementation. An infrastructure audit should address ALL layers and ALL equipment and cabling. You can solicit the services of a Certified Infrastructure Auditor for assistance. Do this first -- understand your system, and you should be fine. Check out my first two blog entries for some tips on how to select a system that is right for you.
