I am considering the use of four VoIP phones in each of the 36+ state capitals in Nigeria. The consideration also includes 30-36 systems for Internet cafes and so on.

I have talked with IDirect. They promise some form of compression for their VoIP that makes it use less bandwidth (say instead of 32k, it will now use about 8-10k). Is there a better VoIP service center elsewhere that offers better compression? And why do I need compression? QUESTION POSED ON: 29 NOV 2004
QUESTION ANSWERED BY: Carrie Higbie In general most VoIP systems use compression more in the 64k range. Compression is important to keep the bandwidth requirements down for the voice traffic, which would leave some bandwidth left for browsing and other Internet services.
