Hello, Ian. I am a business reporting analyst working with an SCT Banner DB (Oracle platform) as the backend and Cognos Impromptu and PowerPlay as the reporting solution for a post-secondary institution. As my questions are too many for one person to answer, I would like to make a generic request for resources, white papers, case studies, etc. of other Banner (or even just Oracle) schools using Impromptu and Powerplay. Impromptu has been their main transactional reporting tool for the last four years, and they have just recently purchased PowerPlay for OLAP capabilities. I come to them from being a trainer with Cognos for two years, so I am very familiar with their products. What I am not so familiar with is SCT Banner and where to start on making it work more efficiently with the reporting tools. My goals here are to clean up the catalogs, build cubes and construct a data warehouse. I know that is vague but this was supposed to be only one question, after all. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Finding information about any tool can be a challenge. I would suggest, regardless of the product that you need information on, that you start by trying to find other users who share this need. So I would refer to use of the Web (of course) to find user groups. Depending on where you are, you may find others that have already done the tuning that you would like to do.
In terms of Oracle and Cognos, there are many resources from IOUG to local Cognos groups. As for Banner, I would suggest you start with Sungard and build from there. One thing, since the product is aimed at educational facilities, I would expect is that there is a group or discussion forum that will help you find the information you are looking for.
