My company is using R5.0.10. Some users are accessing their mails through iNotes 5. When any user tries to log in from the browser, they are repeatedly prompted for their user name and password. I have checked the logs; there are quite a few entries for "User not authenticated." Though the users are able to log in successfully, they are prompted for their user name and password very frequently, and this is quite annoying. Can you help? QUESTION POSED ON: 20 SEP 2004
QUESTION ANSWERED BY: Andrew Pollack You'll get the "User not authenticated" answer the first time anyway -- that's essentially what causes the challenge for credentials. What's happening is you're dealing with a realm problem. The mail file is opening and the login is going to somewhere deeper in the directory tree, which only counts for things under that branch of the tree.

In your server document (in later versions you may have this in an Internet virtual server document), you want to change to "Session based" authentication. That will resolve the problem because the authentication will be server-wide regardless of where on the server your start.

If this is still happening -- and it should not -- it could be that you've got access improperly set on some resource the users are hitting in the mail template. This is unlikely unless you've been playing with access rights to the icons directory or something like that.
